My race car will be setting for 5 or 6 months and I use VP-C12. Is it ok to leave this type fuel in the carb setting that long or should the carb bowls be drained?

Don't leave race gas in your carb. Drain it out and blow it dry. The fuel will clog passages as it drys down.
